Essential Oil Uses

A

Acne face wash...To get rid of acne, make a homemade face wash by mixing tea tree oil (melaleuca) and lemon with raw honey and rub on your face. Then rinse off with water. Apply oils directly or diluted with a carrier oil to the affected area. Rotate the oils for the maximum benefit. Here is a list of oils to choose from. Tea tree, Geranium, Vetiver, Royal Hawaiian, Sandalwood, Patchouli, Lavander, German Chamomile, Cedarwood, Eucalyptus Radiata, Melaleuca . Eliminate dairy products, fried foods, chemical additives and sugar from your diet. Avoid using makeup or chlorinated water.

Achy muscle rub...Mix eucalyptus, wintergreen and cypress with an unscented lotion or coconut oil and apply to muscles.

Age spot reduction...Put on frankincense essential oil three times daily directly on skin to improve sun spots and age spots.

Allergies...Rub frankincense and lavender essential oils on your palms and inhale deeply to relieve itchy eyes and throat.

Anxiety...Diffuse lavender essential oil around your home to reduce feelings of stress and tension. For topical use for all emotional stresses- Young Living Energy Balance blend.

Arthritis relief...Mix two drops of wintergreen, cypress and lemongrass oils into an unscented lotion. Massage into affected areas.

Asthma remedy...Make a homemade vapor rub by combining eucalyptus, peppermint and coconut oil. Rub on your chest and neck.

 

B

Back pain...Combine peppermint, cypress and ginger oils with cayenne pepper and coconut oil for a homemade pain-relieving muscle rub.

Bath detox...Mix lavender oil, Epsom salts and sea salt to a warm bath to cleanse and rejuvenate the body.

Bathtub scrub...Mix one-half cup of baking soda, one-half cup of vinegar and five drops of bergamot or lime oil; use as a scrub for a sink or bathtub. My favorite is the same except instead of bergamot or lime I use Thieves ( I told you I use it for EVERYTHING).

Bee stings...Apply 1-2 drops Antibacterial Blend, Antiseptic Blend, Lavander or Tansy on the location. Repeat as needed until the venom spread has stopped.

Blisters...Mix two drops of tea tree oil with 2 drops of unscented oil and apply to the blistered area up to five times per day.

Body butter lotion...Mix coconut oil, shea butter, magnesium oil and

 

essential oils for moisturizing body lotion.

Body spray...Add 5–10 drops to four ounces of water and use as a fragrant body spray.

Breath freshener...Use a drop of peppermint essential oil for a natural way to freshen breath.

Broken bones...To support healing of broken bones, apply helichrysum, fir and cypress essential oils.

Bronchitis and asthma remedy...Make a homemade vapor rub by combining eucalyptus, peppermint and coconut oil. Rub on your chest and neck.

Bruises...Use essential oils as a hot compress to treat bruises or other wounds. Add five drops of lavender and five drops of frankincense to four ounces of hot water and soak. Apply to affected area.

Bug bites...Use lavender oil for bug bites and stings.

Burns...Mix lavender essential oil with aloe vera to treat burns.

 

C

Cellulite reduction...Mix five drops of grapefruit seed essential oil with 2 teaspoons of coconut oil and massage into dimpled areas.

 

Circulation...Add 8–10 drops of grapefruit essential oil to warm bath water.

Child calming...Help soothe and calm children by adding lavender or chamomile essential oils to their stuffed animals.

Cold remedy...Take three drops of oil of oregano and frankincense oils three daily for one week.

Concentration improvement...Inhale bergamot, peppermint or grapefruit seed essential oils to increase concentration during the day.

Cough remedy...Eucalyptus essential oil is known for its powerful ability to fight coughs and open airways. Add a few drops into steaming hot water or diffuser. Inhale to help clear nasal passage.

Cravings...Inhale peppermint and cinnamon essential oils to reduce your appetite and balance blood sugar.

 

D

Dandruff treatment...Mix five drops of rosemary and lavender essential oils with three tablespoons of unscented oil. Massage into your scalp and leave on for 10 minutes. Shampoo mixture out.

 

Deodorant made at home...Combine coconut oil, beeswax and your favorite essential oils like cedarwood and clove oil for men and lavender and tea tree oil for women.

Depression...To boost mood and relieve depression, add rose essential oil to baths, inhalations and diffusers to improve mood.

Digestion...Take ginger, peppermint and fennel essential oils to support digestion and healing leaky gut.

 

E

Eczema cream...Make a blend with 2 drops of each of the following oils and apply directly to the affected area twice a day. Patchouli, roman chamomile, lavender, antiseptic blend.

Energy boost...Inhale peppermint oil before a workout to reduce fatigue.

 

F

Facial scrub...Mix one-fourth cup yogurt, one-fourth cup cornmeal, and five drops of lavender, grapefruit and patchouli oils. Apply to face and wash off.

Fever...Add 1–3 drops of eucalyptus, peppermint and lavender essential oils to a cool cloth and sponge the body.

Food cravings...Inhale peppermint and cinnamon essential oils to reduce your appetite and balance blood sugar.

Foot bath...Add a few drops of lemon or eucalyptus oil to a large bowl of warm water to help soothe the feet.

Foot healing for dry/cracked feet...Add three drops of lavender oil to two tablespoons of coconut oil. Apply to the feet at night and put on some socks.

Foot soak for sore feet...Add 10 drops of peppermint oil with a tablespoon of Epsom salt and add to a warm-water foot bath.

 

H

Hangover relief...Add six drops each of juniper berry, cedarwood, grapefruit, lavender, rosemary and lemon oil into a warm bath.

Hair conditioner...Mix 15 drops of rosewood oil with five drops of sandalwood and lavender essential oils into unscented oil. Place mixture in a small plastic bag and dunk into warm water to heat up. Apply to hair and wrap for 20 minutes. Shampoo as usual.

Hair Shampoo...To make homemade shampoo, mix lavender oil, rosemary oil, aloe vera gel and coconut milk. Use as you would regular shampoo. It lasts 2–4 weeks.

Hair thickening...Add rosemary oil to shampoo to naturally thicken hair and increase volume.

Head lice...Use a 50/50 blend, meaning 1 tsp coconut oil/olive oil and 4 drops Eucalyptus radiata, 2 drops lavander, 2 drops geranium. Apply to scalp, cover with disposable shower cap and leave it sit for a half hour. Then shampoo well ( I have heard people say putting some tea tree oil in the shampoo is another beneficial. Now the rinse VERY IMPORTANT- Mix in a container with a lid, 2 drops Eucalyptus radiata, 2 drops lavander, 2 drops geranium, 1⁄2 oz. vinegar and 8 ounces of water. Shake vigorously, then pour over hair making sure every strand is rinsed. This should be done over the bathtub or sink. This is not recommended if you are still in the bathtub as lice may cling to other body hair. Dry naturally. Repeat daily until lice and eggs are gone.

Headaches...Apply directly (neat) to temples, at the base of the back of the neck, at the nostril openings and massage on the thumbs and big toes. Apply 1-2 drops of any of the following list, you can try several at a time. Helichrysum, sandalwood, rosemary, basil, lavender, German chamomile, Eucalyptus radiata, marjoram.

Hormone Balance Blend...Ladies as much as we may think that our man is just driving us crazy, we may want to throw in a little balance blend. SHHH you don’t have to tell him. Make a roll on ( you can order roll on bottles on Amazon, make sure they are dark glass) fill 3⁄4 with a carrier oil ( fractioned coconut, olive oil etc. then add 3 drops of each of the following. Lemongrass, clary sage, geranium and ylang ylang. Shake well and let it sit overnight. Then apply over your thyroid, abdomen and thighs morning and night.

 

I

Itchy scalp relief...Add lavender, cedarwood or basil essential oil to shampoo to reduce itching.

Immune system boost...Mix one drop of oregano oil with four drops of carrier oil and rub on the bottom of your feet before flying on a plane.

 

L

Lice...Single oils such as lavander, lemon, peppermint, lemongrass, cypress, cinnamon, thyme and basil effectively repel these insects. Wash all animal bedding add oils during the rinse cycle. Add a few drops of lemongrass to color to help eliminate fleas.

Lip balm...Combine coconut oil, beeswax and lavender oil for an amazing healing balm for chapped lips.

 

M

Massage therapy...Use a few drops of cedarwood or lavender oil, mixed with an unscented lotion during a relaxation massage.

Migraine relief...Apply directly (neat) to temples, at the base of the back of the neck, at the nostril openings and massage on the thumbs and big toes. Apply 1-2 drops of any of the following list, you can try several at a time. Helichrysum, sandalwood, rosemary, basil, lavender, German chamomile, Eucalyptus radiata, marjoram.

Morning sickness from pregnancy...Add a few drops of wild orange, lemon or ginger oil to a handkerchief and inhale.

Motion sickness relief...Use peppermint, lavender and ginger essential oils to reduce motion sickness.

Muscle rub...Mix eucalyptus, wintergreen and cypress with an unscented lotion or coconut oil and apply to muscles.

 

N

Nail strengthener...Mix 10 drops of frankincense, myrrh and lemon essential oils into 2 tablespoons of vitamin E oil, then rub on cuticles.

Nausea relief...Breathe in peppermint oil through your nose to get rid of nausea, and also apply to your neck and upper chest. Ginger and lavender may also help.

Neck pain...Combine peppermint, cypress and ginger oils with cayenne pepper and coconut oil for a homemade pain-relieving muscle rub.

 

O

Oil Pulling...Coconut oil pulling is one of the best ways to remove bacteria and promote healthy teeth and gums. In fact, it’s been proven to be even more effective than flossing, and it’s one of the best ways to naturally whiten your teeth. Take 1/4 teaspoon of coconut oil with 1 drop of Thieves oil and 1 drop Myrrh oil and swish in your mouth for 20 minutes. DO NOT spit in the sink ( it will eventually clog your pipes) use the toilet to spit it in.

Oily hair...Mix 10 drops each of ylang ylang, lime and rosemary essential oils with two ounces of unscented oil. Massage it scalp 2–3 times per week. Wash out as usual.

Oral health routine...Breathe in peppermint oil through your nose to get rid of nausea, and also apply to your neck and upper chest. Ginger and lavender may also help.

 

P

Perfume...Use 1–2 drops of jasmine essential oil on your wrist as a fresh natural fragrance. Lavender and jasmine also agree with most women, while cypress and clove work well for men’s cologne.

Pets with internal parasites...Rub ParGize and /or DiGize on the pads
(bottom of their feet) daily. Many people have reported that they have seen parasites eliminated from the animal within days of starting the application.

Pilates...To relax during yoga or meditation, inhale lavender or sandalwood before class. Also, mix clove and citrus essential oil to clean yoga mats.

PMS relief...Mix two drops of sage, basil and rosemary oils, then apply to a warm, moist hand towel and apply to abdomen.

Poison oak / poison ivy treatment...Mix three drops of peppermint oil with unscented oil and apply to affected area.

Psoriasis cream...Make a blend with 2 drops of each of the following oils and apply directly to the affected area twice a day. Patchouli, roman chamomile, lavender, antiseptic blend.

 

R

Relaxation...Apply 2–4 drops of chamomile, lavender and peppermint essential oil to your temples for a cooling effect and immediate relaxation.

Ringworm treatment...Combine three drops of tea tree oil with coconut oil and massage over the affected area twice a day.

 

S

Sauna therapy...Add two drops of your favorite essential oil into two cups of water in a sauna.

Scalp itch relief...Add lavender, cedarwood or basil essential oil to shampoo to reduce itching.

Shoe smell...To remove the smell from shoes, add a few drops of Purification oil to a cotton ball and put in the toes of the shoes to freshen them up.

Sinusitis relief...Eucalyptus essential oil is known for its powerful ability to fight coughs and open airways. Add a few drops into steaming hot water or diffuser. Inhale to help clear nasal passage.

Skin toner...Mix eight ounces of water with two drops of lavender, geranium and frankincense oils.

Sleep...Lavender oil can alleviate insomnia. Sprinkle a few drops on your pillow to help you fall asleep.

Sore foot soak...Add 10 drops of peppermint oil with a tablespoon of Epsom salt and add to a warm-water foot bath.

Spiritual enlightenment...Diffuse frankincense essential oil while praying, meditating or reading to increase spiritual awareness.

Stretch mark reduction...Mix five drops of frankincense, myrrh and grapefruit seed essential oils with coconut oil and apply to stretch marks.

Sugar scrub...Mix a few drops of an essential oil with almond oil and rock salt or sugar to make your own salt or sugar scrub.

Sunburn relief...Combine lavender or chamomile oil with one tablespoon of coconut oil and apply to the skin with a cotton ball to reduce swelling and pain.

Sunscreen...Mix coconut oil, zinc oxide, shea butter, helichrysum oil and lavender essential oil, then store in a squeeze bottle to make homemade toxic-free sunscreen.

 

T

Teeth grinding reduction...Massage 1–3 drops of lavender on the bottom of the feet and behind ears before bed.

Teeth whitener...Combine lemon essential oil, coconut oil and fresh strawberries, then rub on your teeth. Rinse after two minutes.

Tension relief...Help to relieve anxiety by using a single drop of lavender oil on your hands, rub together, and cup your hands to your nose and let the smell flood your senses.

Toothpaste...Combine sea salt, baking soda, coconut oil and xylitol with peppermint essential oil to make homemade remineralizing toothpaste. Then brush.

 

V

Vaginal Yeast Infection...14 drops Antibacterial Blend, 10 drops Frankinsence and 6 drops mountain savory on a tampon every night for 5-10 days.

 

W

Weight loss...Combine grapefruit, ginger and cinnamon oil and take as a supplement three times daily to support metabolism.

Workout with more energy...Inhale peppermint oil before a workout to reduce fatigue.

Wrinkle reduction...Mix 3–5 drops of sandalwood, geranium, lavender and frankincense essential oils with an unscented lotion and apply to face. Avoid applying to eyes.

 

Y

Yoga...To relax during yoga or meditation, inhale lavender or sandalwood before class. Also, mix clove and citrus essential oil to clean yoga mats.
